Courson Bible commentary for e-Sword

January 20th, 2010 | Category: Bible

As most everyone knows, I work for a Church (Dickson First Assembly or DFA as well call it).  I’m the Media / Networking / Sound / Lighting / whatever else guy, which makes for a very busy but very interesting and rewarding job.  But that’s for another post.  So I try to read the Bible at least a little bit 5 days out of the week . . . I do work for a Church after all.

A Franciscan Benediction

June 17th, 2009 | Category: Bible

So we’ve been reading this book called ‘it’ by Craig Groeschel as our staff book and talking about it in our staff meetings.  It’s a really good book.  I’ll have to write an entire post about it, maybe several posts about it, but I’m not going into it here.  But it’s so good that I’ve been reading ahead (I usually struggle to read what was assigned for that week to be honest).  At the end of the book, Craig has a Franciscan benediction that I found to be very cool . . . so I thought I’d share it with you.

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and the exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, and starvation, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless with you enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

The Revival this week and the JUICE confrence this weekend.

oh yes, how nice it looks

The revival this week at church went very well.  Randy Ruiz was the preacher and he did a wonderful job.  Then entire experience, while physically tiresome, was spiritually refreshing.  I know that sounds strange, but it’s true.  I got a lot out of the entire revival, many little ‘gems’ that just make you think about a scripture differently.

…..For instance, the word used in Genesis 18:14 is often translated as ‘hard’ or ‘difficult’ (Is anything too hard for the LORD?), but the same word also means wonderful.  As in something so great, that it inspires wonder.  God was telling Abraham that his wife Sara was going to have a child, even though they were both old . . .like OLD.  Sara laughed at the prospect of having any children as such an advanced age.  That’s when God asked Abraham ‘Is there anything to wonderful for the Lord?’

He wasn’t just asking if Abraham though anything was too difficult for Him (God), but if there was anything that was too wonderful, to magnificent, to lavish that God couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do it.  He was asking Abraham why he though that He wouldn’t do something so wonderfully kind in his life as give him his hearts true desire.  Munch on that one for a bit.  …

Anywho, the revival was good. I didn’t get any pictures during the thing because, well, I forgot.  I like how the lighting came out though.  It’s a bit difficult to tell in the picture, but the back wall is a deep blue (almost indigo, it’s doubled up RX 80 for the lighting peeps out there) and the breakup gobo (deconstruction A and B, I think) is a deep orange.  The orange looks true at the outside of the stage (where the blue light is dimmest) and fades to a neon like orange, then to a pink as the blue gets stronger toward the middle of the stage.  I like it for two reasons.  1.- I had the gells in stock that I needed, and 2.- I can use it for the JUICE conference tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) since the colors remind me of juice.  Well not the blue no, but the orange as it fades to pink.  …

The JUICE conference is for Youth and Children’s pastors in the Tennessee district.  It’s put on by the district and . . . that’s about all I know.  I’ve never been to one and this is the first year we’ve hosted it.  They told me that registration is down this year (due to the recession I suppose) and is only a couple hundred people.  ONLY a couple hundred people lol.  There will be a couple of main sessions in the Worship Center (including some Praise and Worship that I’ve just remembered that I haven’t entered the words for, I must do that before I leave for the day) and several break out sessions during the day on Saturday.  I’m not sure if we’ll need to set up extra sound in the rooms for the break out sessions, but I hope not as I only have two protable sound systems and there are 4 sessions.  Oh well, I’ll find out tomorrow.

And now I’m off to enter some song lyrics into the Media Computer before heading off to fix a computer, do some grocery shopping, play some Castle Crashers, and then sleep.

My Nation Healed (the video I have been working on)

July 08th, 2008 | Category: Bible,Laptop,Vegas,video

Well sorry for the lack of posts recently.  It’s been a busy weekend for me, as I’m sure it has been for you.

Anywho, mom came up for the weekend and she, dad, and I hung out a lot.  I finished up version three of the video (versions one and two were . . . just not going to work).  I delivered the very large gage extension cords to the Community service (Sunday PM) and Mr. Ed and I set up the camera to record the service (which went very well).

Origin of the New Testament Cannon (my staff devotion for today)

April 08th, 2008 | Category: Bible,Devotion,New Testament,Research

Oh yes, this is going to be a long post.  May not be your cup-o-tea.

Today I had devotion in our staff meeting.  As such, I talked about some research I’ve been doing on (you guessed it) the Origin of the New Testament Cannon.

Here is the ‘short’ version of what I found . . .
