Snow Dayzzzz
So we here in the Middle Tennessee area, along with most of the South East, got several inches of snow and ice. Here in Dickson, right in the middle of the state, we got about 4 inches of snow that was then compacted about an inch by some freezing rain falling on top of it . . . and then we got more snow. Or, in more rural terms . . . we got snow up past our ankles !
I wont go into how badly some people drive on snow / ice covered roads (though I nearly got run off the road by a duly truck), nor will I bore you with pictures of my dog in the snow (though he loves to eat it and I think that’s pretty funny).
No, this post is about how much I enjoyed three entire days off in a row (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as we had to cancel church).
I cleaned my apartment and caught up on laundry, dishes, even re-organized some stuff that had been sitting under the kitchen table for months (there’s not a lot of closet space at the apartment, so things live in boxes under the kitchen table sometimes). I played Mass Effect 2 a good bit, as well as some online billiards with Shawn. I took a nap on two occasions. I made ramen noodles, spaghetti, eat leftovers, went out and braved the elements for some Burger King chicken sandwich goodness . . . and generally . . . I just did nothing in particular and whatever I felt like at the time.
I did have to make one trip into work on Saturday (on some pretty treacherous back roads, at least for my light little pickup truck) to change the message on our phone system to say that church was canceled on Sunday. I know there’s a way to do it from home, but our phone system is SOOOO complicated and the user manual we have is ‘dumbed down’ and only shows the basic options . . . so I had to come in to do it. But I was getting stir crazy by then anyways, and I needed to get out. Yes, we do have a web site that I can put bad weather information on . . . and some people check it . . . but about a third of our congregation either doesn’t have an internet connection or says that they don’t check our web site at all (we did a formal survey a few months ago, I wanted to know). So we also update our phone system . . . which I need to get the ‘admin manual’ for. It’s the NEC Aspire System . . . and I have the 160 page manual . . . I just need the 400 page manual.
Anyways, back to the snow days . . . it was like a mini vacation. It was wonderful. It was glorious. It was refreshing. It was just what I needed and I didn’t even know I needed it. I just wanted to share that with you guys.
That is all. Move along.
