The Revival this week and the JUICE confrence this weekend.
The revival this week at church went very well. Randy Ruiz was the preacher and he did a wonderful job. Then entire experience, while physically tiresome, was spiritually refreshing. I know that sounds strange, but it’s true. I got a lot out of the entire revival, many little ‘gems’ that just make you think about a scripture differently.
He wasn’t just asking if Abraham though anything was too difficult for Him (God), but if there was anything that was too wonderful, to magnificent, to lavish that God couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do it. He was asking Abraham why he though that He wouldn’t do something so wonderfully kind in his life as give him his hearts true desire. Munch on that one for a bit.
And now I’m off to enter some song lyrics into the Media Computer before heading off to fix a computer, do some grocery shopping, play some Castle Crashers, and then sleep.
5 commentsThe Wonderful day(s) of cleaning the A-V room
Oh yes, the excitement never stops here in the DFA A-V department. Finally got all the old master VHS tapes of services boxed up and ready to be put in storage. took out two shallow shelves (that held the master VHS tapes) from the A-V room, put one in my office and the other in the amp closet to be used later. That way I can archive the media I use for videos onto DVD and put them on a shelf (rather then on my hard drive).
There’s an upcoming worship conference (hosted by the district) that our worship leader wants me and the A-V department to attend. She says that at the last conference, there were break out sessions dealing with media stuff . . . but I’m not sure of the topics this time (or if there even are break out sessions).
Is it media 101 (you CAN use a background behind words for worship and FEEDBACK in sound is BAD) . . . or is it more advanced (here are some good resources to find media for worship and this digital EQ with dynamic compression really helps the house mix) ? The conference is in March, costs $30 (or $40 if we register past this week) and is a Friday evening / Saturday morning.
I’m not sure if I want to ask our media volunteers to pony up $30, find baby sitters for an evening and a morning, and drive an hour away . . . if it’s going to be to learn what they already know. It would be good team building time, and they would get a chance to worship out side of our church environment . . . I just wish I had more information. Still waiting on a return call from the district office.
Today’s fun activities include (but are not limited to):
- moving boxesto the Front Office basement . . . where we probably will never look at them again.
- re-racking the MOTU interface and getting all the inputs plugged back in
- cleaning out all the cabinets and then putting the stuff we need back in them (throwing away what we haven’t needed in two years or more).
- oh, and at some point . . . getting ready for the evening service.
I’m posting less and less on the blog because I’m using Twitter more and more . . . and things are busy here too. If you don’t use twitter yet, you need to register on their web page (free) and get Twhirl (a desktop client that works like MSN Messenger). Who knew micro blogging would be so fun !
Oh, and in other news . . . I don’t like our game stop here in Dickson any more. I wish they would get their information strait. One person tells me that the game comes out Tuesday, then I go in Tuesday and they say ‘Oh no, it comes out tomorrow’ and then give me a look like I’m incompetent. That game has such good sound design . . . or rather, the demo had good sound design.
Anywho, it’s back to the salt mines for me.
3 commentsStill Alive !
Well it’s been a while since the old blog was updated. After wrestling with the theme for a while, I decided to go back to the old style for now.
Things have been crazy busy for me here at the church. There are like 30 small projects that have been uncompleted . . . well ever since I started working here 5 years ago. I’ve made it my goal to get as many of them completed in the first few months of 2009 as possible. These are projects that aren’t vital to the day to day operation of the church, or to services during the week . . . but are still things that need to get done. Like cutting the Ethernet cables to length at the hub, cleaning out my office (and the A-V room) of equipment / parts that are obsolete, making forms for people to fill out when then need to use church equipment (rather then calling me the day of) . . . that kind of stuff.
Also, the influx of volunteers has been tremendous, mostly for Camera Operator positions, but that’s what we needed the most. I changed the announcement slide from ‘We need volunteers to operate a video camera during service. No Experience necessary. All training provided !’ to ‘No, for real . . . we need your help !’. As soon as I made the change, we’ve had a volunteer a week come in and want to learn. Trying to organize times for them to come in and get trained has been the only hard part (as I’m teaching a sound class on Sunday afternoons as well).
And the sound class is going well too ! There is so much to learn. It’s not difficult stuff, just lots and lots of simple things all happening at once. There are about 4 or 5 people in the class (some people decided to join late, some people dropped out) which is just the right amount to get some one on one time with them. We’ve gone over everything you could imagine ! From Electromagnetic radiation (and how it causes hums) to what a transducer is (a microphone or a speaker) to what needs to be out front in the mix the most. We went over the sound board for the second time last Sunday and they seam to have it down pretty well. This Sunday will be about insert cables and compression and reverb.
This week is particularly busy as there is a lot of media that needs to be put together before Sunday evening. Cant say why, just in case certain people read this blog.
And we have a new media campaign to get ready for. I call it a campaign, but it’s just a bunch of videos that we’re going to be using in service each week. More details to come as Pastor shares more with the congregation.
Hopefully Mondays will slow down more and I’ll have time for Link Dumps again. And I’ll post my devotion for staff meeting when I get it done. 8- )
