Pre Christmas Play and Jury Duty Update

December 04th, 2008 | Category: Hardware,Microsoft,Server 2003,church stuff,end of world

Ok, so here is an update on my life . . . for the 4 people who care . . .

The Christmas play is coming along well.  We are having some trouble with our hand held mics (they keep turning themselves off . . . or perhaps more specifically, the receivers no longer have a lock on their individual carrier waves).  When the kids go put them back in their case, sometimes they just turn off.  But their switches are tapes in the ‘on’ position, so they aren’t getting turned off that way. It has to be one of two things, either the tape that I use to keep the power switches in the ‘on’ position is putting pressure on the switch, and causing the contacts in the switch to turn the mic off . . . or the fact that the mics are so close to one another while they are being stored (and also turned on) is causing them in interfere with each other and the receiver is loosing sync with each mic.  I think it’s the latter.  The problem is, I’m not sure.  I have to go play with them today and see if I can get them to go off (on way, or the other) and then take corrective action.

Other then the mic problems, the play is coming along nicely.  I have to do some fudging with the music accompaniment track (it was encoded in variable bit rate and sounds kind of bad, but it’s all I have to work with since someone has lost master CD).  I have to go through the script and make my final notes and cues (including lighting ones), and I have to go get the spotlights and then train the mystery people who are going to run them.  But that wont take too long.  We have one last rehearsal on Saturday, so I’m thinking everything will come together then.

Jury duty is still on for Monday (as far as I know).  I have to call the ‘Jury Machine’ Sunday evening after 5pm to make sure the trial isn’t canceled or anything like that.  Other then that, I show up on Monday to the court house with a weeks worth of cloths packed (and my 360) just incase I’m picked.  But I’m still not wanting to get picked.  We’ve offloaded everything from the stage at church (all the instruments, etc.) to make room for the set.  Wednesday of next week is when we’re suppose to load everything back on.  I’m a little afraid of how that’s going to go down if I’m in a hotel room playing Fallout 3.  But thing will work out one way or another.  We have some good volunteers here and they will do the best that they can.  Things are labeled pretty well and there are instructions as to what plugs in where.  And even if I am sequestered, I don’t think it’ll take more then 6 days to be honest.  So if the volunteers can at least get the instruments onto the stage and partially hooked up, then I can come back on (hopefully) Saturday and check things before Sunday morning.

Also, the main server (HEBION- the DNS, Database, and Shared Files Server) is getting more and more bad blocks on the OS hard drive.  That’s not good.  Tonight I’m going to mofe the FSMO (Flexiable Single Master Operations . . . I think) roles from HEBION to RILIEN.  That way if HEBION dies, the network wont die with it lol.

So things are a little busy, well a little busier then they normally are anyways.  I’ve been playing a lot of Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead, both are very fun indeed.  I should post a full review of Left 4 Dead, but that will have to wait as Big Blue is done burning my master CD now.
