An Update on recent events:

February 25th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

- the revival is over.  Got all the CD’s and DVD’s done and to Wes (how has about 100 duplications to make)

- we had a Family Night in the gym where the kids ran the service.  Dumping that footage to DVD right now. And when I get the CD don’t from Sunday Morning, I’ll be done with mastering for today woot !

- I don’t have to stay at the church tonight for any event !  That is SUCH a nice feeling !  Maybe I’ll get a chance to finish the single player of Call of Duty . . . but more than likely I’ll just end up playing some multiplayer with me friends.

- Last Saturday I did a 5K . . . I ran about 2K of it and walked the rest lol.  We went around the track surrounding the football field at the High School.  12 times around is 5K.  I could only make it about half way around at a time running before I had to walk again.  Then I would run again and then walk again.  It wasn’t that I didn’t have the energy to run any further (though it was a challenge) it was the temperature of the air (at just below freezing, breathing deeply hurts).  I drank lots of water that afternoon and Sunday morning I wasn’t as sore as I though I was going to be.  I shall have to start running more up and down my road.

- I wanted to spend my tax return (which should be coming in soon) on a PS3 . . . however my truck needs a front end alignment AND I’m going to start going to a chiropractor to fix some problems with my neck and lower back.  And I think I need to put what’s left over from fixing my truck towards a down payment.

- The Extreme Body Makeover has ended and I lost some weight but gained an inch.  The last three weeks have been SO hectic I haven’t been eating right.  Had I actually eaten right and exercised like I was suppose to I would have lost even more weight and actually lost inches lol.  I think that running a couple of times a week and then doing some strength training a couple time a week will help.  That . . . and getting back on track with my healthy eating.

- Eating healthy again . . . can be expensive and time consuming.  Fast food, while not cheaper, is fast.  And buying organic stuff (with less preservatives) is a bit more expensive and you have to go shopping at least once a week (buying two weeks of vegetables is not a good idea as they tend to go bad rather quickly).  But I’m just going to have to do it.

Today:

Breakfast – Koshi Whole Grain puffs cereal with Almont Milk.  Actually quite tasty.  If I had some honey I would have added that to it.

Lunch – not sure yet.  Plan on having a salad with almond slivers and whole wheat French bread dipped in Olive Oil flavored with garlic and spices.  Maybe stir fry up some veggies or potatoes with it.

Dinner – well I usually cheat on dinner.  You never know what I’ll make or get.  One step at a time here.  Get Breakfast and Lunch down pat . . . then move on to making Dinner happy.

HD-DVD has died . . . long live the PS3 ?

February 20th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

HD vs BluRayHD vs BluRayYes people.  If you haven’t heard already, the last few companies that were supporting HD-DVD have finally stopped supporting the format.

On the upside, that means that the HD-DVD players and disc prices will plummet and, if you catch them at the right time, you might be able to get some of your favorite current movies and a player for cheep !  Course, then you have to get another player a year from now . . . but we wont think about that.

Strangely enough, the PS3 is still the best option for a Blu-ray player.

Why ?  Because BlueRay is constantly updating it’s standards (called Profiles I think) . . . but most players have only one profile burned into the hardware.  The PS3 just downloads an update from the internet and suddenly you have the latest profile.

Why is that important ?

Well some of the latest Blu-ray discs have the BD-Live (profile 2.0 I think) features on them that wont work in older players.  Getting a PS3 means that you pay maybe $100 – $150 more then a standard Blu-ray player . . . but you constantly get updates to make sure it can play all the current discs.  That’s what I liked about HD-DVD, the format had a standard that had all these features from the beginning (so first generation HD-DVD players had all the features of current generation players).  However, Blu-ray discs do have a lot more space to work with . . . so it was kind of enviable that it was gonna’ win . . . plus Sony was pissed that BetaMax didn’t win out last time.

So as soon as my tax return gets back in a few weeks (or possibly when the stimulus package check gets to me this summer) . . . I’ll be buying a PS3.  Sadly my surround receiver only has 2 sets of component in jacks (both of which are being used by HD Cable and my 360).  So I may have to do some cable swapping.  Such sacrifices we have to make in our spoiled culture.

Oh, by the way . . . I get a lot of good information from Pete Cullens blog . . . you can find it at www.petecullen.net.

Valentines Banquet Picture

February 10th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

Ok everyone . . . cross your fingers . . . .

Valentines Banquet 2008

Wow . . . it worked.  I didnt use the flash for this picture for 2 reasons . . .

1.) the flash makes stuff in the forground too bright and the stuff in the back ground too dim while washing out the colors except in the shadows . . . which looks strange.

2.) I hate useing it in a low light environment like that because it’s SOOO bright in peoples eyes and is very distracting . . . which is not what we want at a fund raiser event.

So there you go, grainey but you get the idea.  That’s just the audience lighting.  The color theme was pink but I wanted to do a gradiation of colors (since every other year it’s all a solid color).  I choose such a deep saturated color because I didnt get all the stage lights I needed working . . . which made the stage a bit darker then I wanted.  So if you make the audience a little darker the stage seams a bit brighter.

Plus . . . I just like deep saturated colors.

Hopefully I’ll have a few more pictures to come !

We raised just over $10,000 for Speed the Light (a missions orgnization that suplies A-V equipment and vehicles for missionairies).¼/p>

Quick Update

February 05th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

Quick Update:

- Getting ready for the Valentines Banquet on Saturday.  This means that I’m finiliazing lighting plots (my hand written notes and sketches), hanging and focusing lights, and editing some video for a couple of the songs.

- Also trying to get all the stuff I normally do during the week done in a hurry this morning.  Some stuff just has to be put on the back burner (well, a large chunk of it actually) but I’m trying to accomplish the essential tasks while the lift is in use by the construction company who is fixing our drive through thing at the church.

Last Tuesday we had some very bad storms come through with winds that were so bad they torqued the covering over our front doors (the things you drive under when it’s raining so you don’t get wet).  It’s like a large piece of roof that extends our in front of the church . . . not just a covered awning.  Let me put it this way . . . they guys said if it moved much moor and fallen down it would have ripped la large chunk of the front of the church off with it.  So they are borrowing the one man lift (that I need to hang and focus lights in the gym) to fix it.  Hopefully they will be done at 1 pm so I wont be too behind schedule.

As soon as I can I’ll take some pictures of my lighting (and the wonderful table decorations) and post them . . . if I ever figure out how to do so correctly.  If all else fails I’ll just make a new web page and link to it.

- The dog continues to do better and better each day.  His front left leg has some bad arthritis in it so he’s still a little limpey . . . but he made it down 5 steps today (besting his previous record of 3).
